Philanthropy… why bother? Well, we believe that you can only do so much navel-gazing before you forget there is a whole bunch of other great organizations in our world doing great things. Not only do we love that we can give back to our community by sharing our time and talents, but it is a whole lot of fun!
Bryce (Growe founder) and Phil (EVOL founder) have been friends for a few years — the “garden geek” community is a small one. EVOL’s mission to redefine frozen food was different, but parallel to Growe’s vision to redefine school food and food education. We simply had to get involved. Radical food thinkers unite! With our powers combined… you know the rest.
The Growe Foundation is a local non-profit in our community doing some really amazing work to address the rising rates of dietary and environmentally related diseases affecting kids. Using school vegetable gardens, it engages elementary students in lessons about food, how it is grown and how our choices affect the environment, all while they practice and improve on their math, science and social studies skills! Garden to Table lessons meet state academic standards and engage the entire school community in an outdoor experiential learning environment. The Garden to Table program’s innovative approach builds collaboration by bringing teachers, parents and community supporters together to help children understand the interconnectedness between humans and nature. As of May 2012, 7500 students attending 18 BVSD schools and living in four Boulder County cities are receiving academically enriching lessons that will help them live healthier and more sustainable lives!
